I've heard this my whole life, the suggestion that history is just “lost” through time but, especially given the past several years (& since 2000), I largely don't buy that anymore; history (or information, generally) is deliberately destroyed, neglected, or not taught to the next generation. Watch the 2009/2010 film, “Agora”, to remind yourself on how ancient history has been “lost”—deliberately destroyed—and this is, sadly, beginning to happen all over again.
