One set of my grandparents was Scots, another grandmother was Irish. It's a good thing I was born under the sign of Gemini because I do get very confused sometimes when I am conversing. I love to tell long-winded stories but I also enjoy the quick laconic comeback ;)

And don't we all adore that Scots humor ! I had a Scots uncle who personified this trait as I grew up - it took me a long time to recognize his snarky comments on my youthful self as just humor - I thought for a long time that he was just being nasty & hurtful - luckily i learnt to give him back as good as he gave, to much laughter !

Great piece. Being part Greek I find it intersting compatring Scots to Sparta. My grandfather immigrated from Crete, which is a story in itself.

The Irish and Irish-Americans - not known to be laconic, Spartan-like?😊

"Λακωνικος or ΛΑΚΩΝΙΚΟΣ" translated to "Laconian," is still used in Modern Greek to describe someone "savvy," "sly," or "evasive"...
