This was a truly pleasure to read, I loved the poetry “Although they are only breath, words which I commend are immortal.” After reading this, my interest in her poetry has grown! Thank you for shedding light on her.
Where did the last painting(?) of Sappho sitting on a marble bench come from? One can clearly see both of her bent knees but I can’t figure out how her left foot is flat on the ground. It took a few minutes to figure out why that picture didn’t look right to me.
I would not fret about the loss of her poetry. Sure as rain the Vatican has the worlds largest pornography liberary in the world, though not all have access. Keeping a finger on satan so to speak.lol.

I own a book published in 1972 called "Sappho Was A Right On Woman". I highly recommend it. Great read!
Cool! I hadn't seen it before - but looks really interesting!

I love the interesting articles. Thanks.
The painting is called 'In the Days of Sappho' (also known as Rêverie), and it's by English artist John William Godward. It's from 1904!
