How crazy should we drive ourselves seeking retribution or justice? Can we even control these impulses if we try? Too much and one can never be satisfied, too little one will be a punching bag accepting of abuse, disrespecting oneself, also not satisfying.
I think the truth is somewhere between Homer’s heroes and Plato’s rationalizing. We can only attempt to control these impulses and focus them toward productive and healthy outlets. Rage will consume us if we let it go unchecked, but so will our competitors and enemies.
