I believe Mr Scott values spectacle over accuracy in a few of his films. This is okay in my opinion as cinema is pretty much phantasmic anyway and is there to entertain as much as fool. Not a bad illusion as we pay for escapism in the movies for the most part. Unfortunately it hits the rocks sometimes ;)

I like to think what the ancients would have thought about it... I think they would have probably enjoyed the spectacle to be honest.
