A deeply inspiring read. It made me question how often I mistake freedom for comfort, or for the illusion of external control. Epictetus’ perspective, so raw and essential, feels almost subversive in today’s world, where everything revolves around desire and external validation.

The idea that true freedom lies in mastering our perceptions and judgments is both liberating and demanding. It’s not easy to accept that even our most instinctive reactions are, ultimately, a choice.

Thank you for bringing this perspective back into focus. I can’t help but wonder how different our society might be if this were the definition of freedom we taught from an early age.

I think Epictetus will always continue to benefit mankind no matter the age or culture, his philosophy reminds me of Viktor Frankl who wrote Man’s Search for Meaning. Interesting that he too was also enslaved - in a concentration camp.
