Dear Classical Wisdom Reader,
I know it sounds crazy.
But it feels like talk about the apocalypse is never far away these days. The headlines this week have been all about natural disasters across Europe, with horrifying scenes of wildfire and destruction spread all across the news.
Elsewhere, this week also saw the release of the new Oppenheimer film, about the nuclear scientist who came to view himself as ‘the destroyer of worlds’. As it turns out, he may have had some ancient antecedents, as you can read about just below.
It’s all a bit apocalyptic… but what would the ancients have made of it all?
Well, we have an exclusive podcast for our Members looking at exactly that. Featuring Professor Christopher Star, we dive into humanity’s understanding of the apocalypse across history.
It turns out, our fascination with the end of days is nothing new…
Members can also take part in our upcoming Roundtable Discussion on the Myth of Atlantis on August 9th at Noon EST.
Was Atlantis itself a real destroyed civilization? A victim of natural disaster? Or a metaphor for something deeper? We’ll be joined by Benjamin B. Olshin as we try to get to the bottom of one of the ancient world’s most beguiling mysteries.
Be sure to join us on the day, and check out the rest of the week’s resources just below!
