From Jesus to Einstein, Jewish people have had an outsized impact on the history of the world. Representing just a mere .07% of the population (pre-Holocaust) or .02% (post-Holocaust), the role this tiny minority has played in major historical events can not underestimated... though it is most definitely under appreciated.
Part of the reason for this, one may contend, was their relationship with the ancient Romans. We all know history is written by the victors, but rarely do we realize just how influential those historical biases can be. After all, the Jews were the enemies of the Romans, and their wars and revolts were enshrined in such a light.
To this end, this month’s Classical Wisdom Litterae covers the full spectrum of the Jewish people; their role and depiction in the classical world, their philosophers and their gods. So enjoy learning about the ancient peoples, the Jews.
