"Emperor Gallienus, over friendly games of chess with the philosopher, agreed to let Plotinus build a second city near Rome, based on Plato’s Republic, to be called Platonopolis (seven hundred years after Plato’s death)."

I have a question '?:' The chess game originated in the 7th century CE in India, were the greeks already exploring the Indian continent at that time? How did the Greeks adopted the chess game?

A city of the most learned minds is always gonna be a difficult sell. By definition it is for the few. The ones who repose, who lounge in thought. Drag a half ton of stone a few miles every day and then imagine still believing they deserve a life of quiet self-content, relaxed in their firm knowledge that differs ever more than slightly to yours.
