Science is a subset of philosophy. A 1000 years from Ancient Greece to the 17nth century natural philosophy made the natural world a way to study the nature of God. Aristotle’s Physics was mostly about change not mechanics. Slowly, from pre-Socratic philosophers to medieval scientists to the scientific revolution, philosophical speculation about changed slowly changed into early modern mechanics. Conservation of energy, momentum, and angular momentum came to be.
